As part of our mission to integrate Himalayan heritage with modern education, we’re honored to share this cultural moment from the school.

Last fall, monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, led by Khensur Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan, founder of Siddhartha School and former head of the monastery, performed a traditional fire puja on campus. The ceremony was a powerful offering dedicated to world peace, the success of the school and its students, and the well-being of all sentient beings.

A fire puja, or jinsek, is a sacred ritual in Tibetan Buddhism for purification and merit accumulation, as well as being an offering to deities. The fire is considered the mouth of the deity, consuming offerings such as grains, ghee, and herbs, which are transformed into blessings.

Fire pujas serve multiple purposes. They clear negative karma and obstacles, helping individuals and communities move forward without spiritual or worldly hindrances. They also mark the completion of deity retreats, ensuring proper dedication of merit. Additionally, fire pujas invoke blessings for health, success, and harmony.

Through chanting, offerings, and visualization, practitioners send prayers into the flames, symbolizing transformation. In some cases, fire pujas appease Dharma protectors and local spirits, restoring balance and preventing misfortune. This practice reinforces the connection between practitioners and enlightened forces, spreading blessings for all.
