Dear Friends and Supporters,

We recently lost a dear and longtime friend of Khensur Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan’s.

John C. Brzostoski was a professor of Asian/Himalayan art and philosophy in New York City, at the New School, the Cooper Union, and New York University, as well as a lecturer at colleges and universities all over the United States. He was also an art teacher who shared his knowledge with high school-aged students.

John is remembered as a teacher who taught outside the box, helping his students realize the potential of their gifts and create work that may not have been manifested without his mentorship. His knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism was exceptional, and his lifelong commitment to its principles was enriched through many trips to India, Nepal, and Tibet.

John and Rinpoche first came to know one another at the Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center in Washington, New Jersey, in the late 1970s.

John’s daughter has shared incredible photos of her father with Rinpoche during these days, as well as others of his teaching.

We are grateful for John’s presence in our world, for his enduring friendship with our founder, Khensur Rinpoche, and for the legacy that endures in his name.
