It’s Taken 30 Years, but We’re Almost There!
For the first 20 years of the school, there was no water on campus. It wasn’t until 2015 that donors like you funded our first step toward bringing water to campus. The school’s original well, dug in 2014, is located across the street and has shallow or exposed pipes, requiring the water supply to be shut off in colder months. To ensure students have consistent access to water, Principal Dechen Wangmo has been transporting water from town during winter. The new well, positioned closer to the school, is being dug with the goal of providing a reliable year-round water source. For the last years, the only water on campus has been brought in by trucks and only lasted a few days days. The deliveries were infrequent, and now, the drilling for our very own well on Siddhartha’s campus has begun!

Recently, Principal Dechen Wangmo gave us an update:
The well being drilled at the school is crucial for the well-being of both our hostel and school community. In winter, when the existing water system freezes, we are forced to transport water from a distance using vehicles, which is difficult and time-consuming. There have even been times when, due to the water shortage, children had no choice but to return home to wash their clothes and uniforms.

Additionally, as the school is located in a relatively dry area with very few trees, the well will also allow us to plant trees and improve the greenery around the campus. It will also help us grow vegetables to support the nutritional needs of our hostel students. This well will not only ensure a reliable year-round water supply, but will also contribute to creating a healthier, greener, and more self-sustaining environment for our children.

Principal Dechen Wangmo (pictured to the left) wishes to say,
“I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the donors for supporting this noble cause. Water is life—it is essential for health education and the overall well-being of our students. Your generous contribution is helping us create lasting change for the children and the entire school community.”
The staff, the Partnership, and the students send a resounding THANK YOU to all who have given thus far in the water well campaign.
Upcoming: Watch for Our 2023/2024 Annual Report
Shortly, we’ll be sending our annual report, which will highlight our philophy, challenges, and key insights. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to review it and share it with your network as we work to expand our school community during this 30th anniversary milestone.
