This week is Halloween, so we thought we’d share a Hero Project Siddhartha School Portrait that is frightening until you consider it from a Buddhist point of view.

In a popular mandala of the Wheel of Life, all of the realms of existence are depicted between the jaws or in the arms of a monstrous Shinje.

Every living being in this world is held in the jaws of Shinje, and the only way out of the cycle of birth and death is through spiritual practice—doing for others, taming one’s mind, and overcoming our own mental afflictions of the ego.
